I bought a Dyson animal four years again and was never very impressed with its performance. It has only been used as a back up for our central vac system. I Have cleaned out both filters and it still does not suck. It was not cheap, certainly the quality is not compatible with the $600 price tag. If your vacuum turns off immediately after turning it on or does not turn on, it may be a problem with the power cord.
We expected if we were going to run into performance issues, it would be on the cereal tests on hardwood floors. It had one hiccup on cereal on high carpets, otherwise it basically 100% across the board. Unsurprisingly, the Dyson Animal 2 dominated our cleaning tests. Scoring nearly perfect vs. every debris and floor type we could throw at it. For comparison, Dyson’s Multi Floor 2 has 250 AW of suction power and the Dyson V11 has 185 AW of suction power .
Dyson doesn’t stick to chronological order when naming its stick vacuum models. Sometimes it skips numbers, and sometimes it’ll introduce a lower number as a later model than a higher number. For example, Dyson introduced bissell cordless vacuum the V15 immediately after the V11, and then the V12 after the V15. In the broadest sense, the numbers seem to loosely grow larger with each passing release—the V11 is newer than the V10, and the V10 is newer than the V8.
