Classic wooden boat plans is a collection of established wooden boat designs ranging from the early 1900’s to about 1970. Some of our own designs are Banshee, Custom Barrelback 19 and the Deep V inspired by the Donzi Sweet 16, Bantam. Other plans include Chris Craft, Hacker, Gar Wood, Riva, Switzer, barrel back, Baby Bootlegger, Flyer, Teaser, Rosita Hacker. As with trailering, a boat that’s improperly supported on land is likely to go out of shape. If it has long overhangs, gravity will attack those first.

We’ll answer any questions you have about a particular make and model of boat. We also have photos, documentation, and history of the boat from the previous owner so you can be happy with the boat you are purchasing. The goal of sheltering your boat is to keep rainwater out of the bilge and to keep it from drying out too much in the wind and sun.

Leaders from that group served as board and staff, inspiring a commitment that continues to this day. Through the decades, WBF and an ever-growing number of marine trades business and maritime education partners carry on their work with a progressive “PT” style of community and business. Instructors of The Landing School’s Wooden Boat Building program select the designs for the project boats based upon the depth of information and the skills that students can gain from their construction.

Alternatively, some graduates of the program have successfully landed positions in cabinet making, furniture construction, custom finish carpentry, and other high quality woodworking careers. The last whale harvested along the shores of Carolina? The single boat involved was led by Charlie and John Rose. The whale produced 38 barrels of oil.Some believe that this was the last whale taken in North Carolina waters by shore based whalers, the dolphin seine net fishery in our state lasted a little while longer. It could have very well been all of these reasons combined.This picture is of a whale boat used by Captain Lewis in the late 1800’s. It would have been launched from shore when a whale was sighted in the ocean.

Our opportunities for youth students include woodworking basics as well as the YouthBoat initiative. YouthBoat, empowers students by building character and fostering teamwork through the traditional craft of building and on-the-water activities. Students from diverse backgrounds work alongside skilled shipwrights and craftspeople to put STEM skills to work, follow building plans, and use specialized tools and materials. Whether you’re a boating enthusiast or prefer to keep your feet on dry land, the Annual Wooden Boat Show has activities for all ages.

The Hudson River Maritime Museum is a 5013 non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history of the Hudson River, its tributaries, and related industries. There are a number of dining options within walking distance of the shop. The school has a full kitchen in the building which includes a refrigerator and microwave. Start building that boat and soon folk will be coming to you for advice and to admire Your Beautiful Wood Boat. And there are hundreds of people out there just like you creating superb boats from environmentally friendly Wood.

More than 2,000 people from all corners of the US and several Canadian provinces traveled, some with their boats and tools, to the first nationally recognized remote control boat Festival in Port Townsend. N my years of teaching boatbuilding and repairing wooden boats, I’ve noticed many mistakes owners make in the upkeep of their boats—common practices, done with good intent, that can often do more harm than good. I’ve distilled these into a list of the ten most common ones I’ve observed.

The Annual Wooden Boat Show takes place on the Beaufort waterfront at the North Carolina Maritime Museum and the Harvey W. Smith Watercraft Center. Beaufort has been named “Best Yachting Town in America” by Yachting magazine. Tidewater Wooden Boat Workshop teaches Hampton Roads youth STEM and life skills through the building of wooden boats and other nautical activities. All of our youth programs are offered at no cost to families with many sessions throughout the week in an effort to meet scheduling needs.
