The Dyson and Tineco models all have bin volumes of about 0.6 liter, which is fairly common across the category. Our alternate budget pick, the Moosoo XL-618, has double that capacity (1.3 liters) so you’ll need to empty the bin less often. To access the hidden Shark Handheld Wandvac, you just pull down on two release levers — there’s no reconfiguration of attachments required as is the case with the Dyson, Bissell and other competitors. Before trying this vacuum, we already owned a Shark Wandvac Handheld and it has been one of our favorite household cleaning tools.
This vacuum does allow you to adjust the suction to 3 different levels (which means 3 different levels of power used). When I use the vacuum it lasts much longer for me because I do adjust it when I’m on the hard floor surfaces as opposed to the carpet where it needs to be on full power. That said, quite a few of their more compact offerings struggle with clearing bulky debris, while their bigger corded uprights generally feel somewhat cheap.
Additionally, we run anecdotal (visual) pet hair tests for each vacuum, on all three floor types, to help us select the best cordless vacuum. To get started, we hauled in 15 of the latest models from leading vacuum brands with high user ratings and reviews, and ran them through a series of tests designed to measure overall proficiency. All of the cordless vacuums we tested were between 4 and 7 pounds, but none was so heavy that it affected our recommendation. All of the vacuums on this list were also very similar in height and overall size. The Dyson models are both roughly 49 inches, while the Tineco A11 is shorter at just 43 inches tall.
You can lay it flat to get underneath your couch, or transition it into a handheld or high-reach vacuum so you can clean pretty much anywhere in your home. The Tineco A11 Tango has a design that’s almost identical to the Dyson V11 Animal, but it fell short of that model and others in terms of suction power. It was able to pull pet fur, cat litter and pine needles off hard floors and plush carpets, but it required more passes than the top picks. It also has a shorter run time — 40 minutes on a full charge compared to the 60 minutes of the others. This bagless canister vacuum has three cleaning modes and can be used across all types of flooring from carpet and hardwood to tile and linoleum. While we haven’t tested this model in the Lab just yet, our experts appreciate that it has edge-cleaning bristles to get the dust out of hard-to-reach places like baseboards and along the edges of cupboards. Bissell makes post-cleaning tasks easier with automatic cord rewind and a dust cup that is emptied with the touch of a button.
