Coleman PerfectFlow 2 Burner Propane Stove 2000007502

With decent simmer control and solid output at full tilt, the Coleman is one of only a few stoves in its price range that’s capable enough for cooking diverse meals. Last but not least, its 11-pound weight and manageable size make the Triton easy to transport in a car and store at home. When cooking one pancake at a time, this stove is fabulous — two or more revealed a hot spot in the center of the pan, a pretty typical issue for stoves with small burners. While compact stoves such as this one can fit larger pans, they generally aren’t able to heat them evenly.

The Coleman Eventemp 3 burner camp stove has all of the features you would expect on a camping stove from Coleman.

Taking it a step further, we also like Jetboil’s Genesis system, which includes a stove and cookware, manages to weigh less than 10 pounds, and folds down to nest into the included pot. Again, these considerations don’t matter to some campers, but they can be a difference-maker for those limited on space. This stove, in Richard Gustin’s collection, measures 49 1/2″ H x 49″ W x 24 1/2″ D. It features instant lighting for the four cook top burners, oven and broiler. There is a service drawer for utensils below the cook top burner controls.

I did last year pick up a BSA 3000, which is much lighter but not as well made as the Peak 1. I am sure this review applies to the new model as well…they are exactly the same except for the tank design. I think the newer wider base with no legs might be better. Used in in all types of conditions, run hard and put away wet. Once started, I pump (if you need a fast boil) a little more.

The Mountaineer is larger (at 25¼ by 13¾ by 5¼ inches, it dwarfs our top pick). It’s heavier (17 pounds, versus the Coleman coleman propane stove Classic’s 11 pounds). And it offers way more heat output (40,000 Btu, versus the Coleman Classic’s 20,000 Btu).

A new stove from a reputable outdoors company should be good to go, and if you bought your stove used, make sure you know its history and double check everything before your trip. It never hurts to read user reviews of stoves before buying to see what issues people have run into. As I mentioned, the temperature dials are a little finicky when you’re going for a gentle simmer. There is a very tight window between the heat strength of an industrial furnace and no-flames-at-all where the perfect simmer resides. I got used to its sensitivity after awhile, but it was annoying when I had to grab my lighter and reignite the flame.

Despite its more powerful burners, it fell just a few seconds behind the Camp Chef Everest in all of our boil tests, most likely because camping cookware sits slightly higher above the burners. The top cooking grate is removable to allow full access to the drip tray underneath. There’s a hole to nest the fuel adaptor when storing, creating a recess that may collect food bits over time, but nothing major.

It also includes a piezo ignition, which is fine as long as you don’t expect that component to last forever (none of them do). The Cascade case is easier to carry thanks to its included handle. With large pans, the outer edges get significantly less heat. Using a digital thermometer to check the temp around a 12-inch cast-iron pan, I found that temps varied by as much as 100 degrees from the center to the edge.

At the base, they’re no different than any other windscreen on any stove. I did much of my testing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, in coleman stove up to 30-knot winds. Both stoves did as well as could be expected, though it’s worth noting that no stove will cook well in 30-knot winds.

Wiping down this model after use is fast, and due to its simple design, there isn’t much attention necessary beyond keeping it clean. The Stansport Boulder Series 2-Burner Propane Stove disappointed us with its overall build quality and terrible low-temperature control. Over the years we’ve had wildly variable results from similar Stansport stoves. Another close Stansport model, the Regulated Propane Stove, was once an upgrade pick but has been plagued by stock issues.
