Shark Canister Vacuums & Floor Care, Storage & Cleaning

That makes them more versatile than even the most prestigious brands in our upright vacuum review that just got bogged down or stuck. The turbine-powered brushroll on the Electrolux – EL4021A didn’t help much, though. It got stuck in longer carpet fibers and was only slightly more effective than the bare-floor tools included in less expensive vacuums. The height control on the Kenmore shark canister vacuum heads gave the biggest advantage in long-pile carpet, but Shark’s dual-brush system performed almost just as well. Choosing a canister vacuum without a powered carpet head was tricky, since the bare-floor cleaning that these vacuums are best at isn’t particularly complicated. The Bissell – Zing offers good power at a very affordable price, and it doesn’t skimp on the details.

Notably, you can also make this vacuum more compact for storage; the handle can fold in half. Its canister converts into a handheld vacuum you can use, too, but we found the handheld vac to be decently heavy. It may be fine for grabbing a few cobwebs, but don’t expect to use it overhead for a long time. There’s also not a designated spot for attachments, which was disappointing, so you’ll need to repurpose a box or bin to keep the attachments together in your home. Repair technicians tend to love Riccar, Simplicity, and Fuller Brush uprights (all made by Tacony Corporation).

The Lift-Around has an eight foot hose that connects with any of the on-board attachments. It’s long enough to reach curtains, corners and other hard-to-access places. Bed Bath & Beyond is a nationwide chain of home furnishing “SUPER-STORES” offering one of the largest selection of products for your home anywhere, at everyday low prices.

You’ll only ever catch a few strands on the roller, which eliminates the maintenance needed on traditional roller designs. The Shark is also more agile than other fully-powered brushroll systems, and it has handle-switched lower-power settings that will keep it from eating up area rugs. For mixed flooring types, this vacuum is just as good as the Kenmore Elite, but you can’t shed the weight of the brushroll for quicker coverage of large bare-floor surfaces.

The dustbin got permanently dirty after just a few months of use, sort of like a foggy wine glass that hasn’t been cleaned properly in a while. But that’s mostly cosmetic, and any bagless vac with a clear cup will have that problem.

The C3 Calima is the most affordable model with a turbo brush head in the Miele lineup, and like other Miele vacs, it has a crush-proof hose and a totally sealed body, for better dust control and quieter operation. We put a wide range of Shark’s current vacuum models to the test over the course of several testing sessions, evaluating their performance both in our lab and in the homes of our testers. After assembling each vacuum, we used them to clean up several different types of debris, including large particles like dog kibble and cereal, as well as dirt and pet hair.

We noticed particularly good pick-up on carpets, but it’s equally at home on hard floors as well as cleaning upholstery or overhead. It’s a great choice for those who don’t like upright or stick style vacuums or for anyone who wants a reliable clean without having to worry about how much battery is left. In testing, this vacuum performed extremely well, having no problem picking up dog kibble or pet hair from a variety of surfaces.

It also has a narrower cleaning path (according to some consumers) compared to a Dyson and Hoover. And build quality is excellent with all the tools locking securely when attached with a “click”. It won’t block as fine dirt as a bagged vacuum but 0.3 microns is pretty good. To put that in perspective, shark canister vacuum a Dyson filter will block around 0.5 microns. This is a bagless vacuum with a dirt holder that disconnects from the unit’s body with the release of a lever.

While there are positives to a plug-in vacuum, the negative is that you can’t stray further than 25 ft / 9 meters from a power socket so there’s less freedom, which won’t suit everyone.

In total, the NR96 has 5 attachments along with the extension wand that’s fully adjustable. This removes extra founds off the already lightweight frame and makes it even more portable. The Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away has some neat features not found in other canisters. The Powered shark pet hair vacuum Lift-Away NR96 is the only canister in the Shark product line. Smooth Glide wheels rotate 360 degrees, so the canister can glide behind you wherever you clean. We didn’t get to hear the Lift-Around powered on, but we’ll measure noise output as soon as we can get one in our lab.
