Hamilton Beach HJE960-CE Otto Centrifugal Juice Extractor

This metric focused on the actual yield when juicing various types of softer food and the quality of the juice generated. We used cucumbers, celery, apples, and oranges to judge performance. Of these two juicers, Hamilton Beach seemed like the better choice for us. Cost, size, clean-up, handling of the machine, and the fact that they were so similar in performance, were factors that led us to choose Hamilton Beach over Breville. The extra $100 for the Breville machine versus Hamilton Beach was not worth it in our opinion. I don’t see how it could be worth it for anyone, unless looks is the most important part.

The larger size mouth also allows for whole apples and larger fruits and vegetables so I didn’t have to cut everything into small pieces. For our final metric, we judged the difficulty hamilton beach coffee grinder in cleaning each juicer. We looked at each component, noting any problems we found in cleaning them, whether or not they are dishwasher-safe, and include a cleaning brush.

The Big Mouth did quite well, holding its own with an above-average score. If you’ve used this product, log in and leave a review to tell us and other customers what you thought about it. Both machines made some mess on the counters, back splash, and under the cabinets when fruits and vegetables were added to the juicers. Tiny pieces of pulp would spray out from the opening while the machines were running. Hamilton Beach did a little bit better than Breville did, in this regard. I also tried to run the pulp through the  machine a second time, which squeezed out a few more dribbles, but not enough to be worth the extra effort. I don’t see how purchasing a much more expensive machine would save money even in the long run, but I could be mistaken.

Moving on to juicing oranges, the Big Mouth failed to impress. It produced about 15mL less juice than the average with little pulp and approximately a half-inch of foam on top. It did a little better at juicing apples, but not by much. We finished with an essentially average yield of juice, but there was tons of pulp in the drink. The juice also rapidly separated, and there was a lot of foam on the surface.

The 3-inch mouth allows you to fit whole or halved fruits and vegetables in, so there’s minimal prep. Sometimes a fresh-pressed juice is just the thing to brighten up a drab fall day. Juicing at home is one way to customize your beverage and save money, but at-home machines can be incredibly daunting. There are so many high-tech options on the market, and they can run upwards of $150. We evaluated how well each juicer did at juicing sweet potatoes, carrots, and beets for this metric. We used an identical set of criteria as the previous metric to score performance, and the Big Mouth again delivered an average performance.

Continuing its trend, the Big Mouth landed in the middle of the pack, though it had some highs and lows. Image may include accessories and may not hamilton beach mixer necessarily
