We received well above the average amount of juice with only mild amounts of pulp, though it created a decent amount of foam. For the best juice results and to prolong the life of your centrifugal juicer, use firm fruits and vegetables like apples and carrots. Performance fell a little when it came to juicing celery, with the Big Mouth only producing an average amount of juice. This juice also had moderate pulp and foam and separated relatively quickly. The Breville machine is beautiful, with a sleek and expensive look to it. It is taller and wider than Hamilton Beach, requiring a bit more storage space. At the same time, the juice container is much larger, which is a plus if you do a lot of juicing in one sitting. The container also has a lid that serves as a foam catcher.

Unfortunately, performance dropped considerably when we tried juicing kale in the Big Mouth. Its yield was less than average, but only a minuscule amount of foam was produced. This juicer also struggled with spinach, again having a lower than average yield, but this time producing about an inch of foam. The Big Mouth did much better in our second test, a recipe of romaine lettuce, apples, and oranges. The final drink was mildly pulpy, but overall, it had a great texture and tasted fine. Our third drink for testing combined beetroot, apples, carrots, sweet potatoes, and oranges.

There’s more to clean with a larger container and an added lid, and foam can be removed using a spoon on models without a lid. Hamilton Beach’s juice container is much smaller, but you can also fit a drinking glass under the spout in place of the juice catcher. This cannot be done on Breville’s juicer since the juice comes spraying out and will make a mess unless the proper container is in place. We finished out our testing for hard produce with sweet potatoes and again got an admirably average performance. The Big Mouth yielded the amount of juice we got from most juicers in our lineup, with moderate amounts of pulp.

But functionality is more important to us, and Hamilton Beach beats Breville in our opinion. I did like the two speed option on the Breville juicer, compared to one-speed-only on Hamilton Beach. The added low-speed on Breville is nice for when you juice soft items such as oranges; I found that the lower speed created less foam. For the last 3 years I have been drinking juicing recipes to keep up my vegetable intake but I also love the fresh taste! You may remember my first hamilton beach juicer review on Stagetecture in 2012 and I’m excited to pair up with them again to feature their larger model juicer.

As a centrifugal juicer, it uses an 800-watt motor to quickly easily extract the juice from even the toughest of produce, like beets. It comes with an extra-large pulp bin to collect waste, plus each part is easy to disassemble and throw right in the dishwasher for easy cleanup. The Big Mouth started this metric with a solid performance at juicing cucumbers, tying for one of the higher scores. It generated an above-average juice yield, exceeding the average by about 15mL, and produced only mild amounts of foam, though there were moderate amounts of pulp.
