So the meaning of the former is that you would not use it in very a harsh environment. Being so tall and with such huge windows and without a fly, it would not do well in very strong rains and winds. There are waterproof panels on all windows and on the door, and the zippers there coleman canopy are covered by storm flaps, but without a full-coverage fly this is not a completely waterproof design. Maybe gimmick is too strong a word for Coleman’s instant tent. Many other Coleman Tents are available that are larger in size and of the same or better quality for less money.
The canopy and rainfly are made from double-thick, 150D polyester. Lightweight but rugged steel poles provide a strong frame that maintains its shape flawlessly, and also helps the structure stand up to strong winds. We highly recommend that before you pitch any tent at a campsite, you watch online videos to familiarize yourself with their setup and breakdown processes. For instant tents, this is just as important as any other tent. While many of these tents claim they can be assembled in 60 seconds, that doesn’t include laying down a tarp, putting in tent stakes, securing guylines, or putting on a rain fly. For our testing, we allowed a 5-minute start-to-finish setup time, to be completed by one person, with all of the additional steps.
The tent is freestanding, so any additional pegging can be accomplished at your leisure (unless wind is a factor). You’ll also want to set aside some extra time to strap on the secondary rainfly should you opt to purchase this along with the tent, but we’ll talk more about that later on. It’s also worth noting that this tent can easily be set up by only one person, something that cannot be said for several of the two-person tents in our review.
Five of the eight tents made it through an unexpected rain and a hailstorm! The remaining three tents were doused with a garden hose on full blast. The rain fly is a cinch to connect and, what’s more, the open roof makes this a dreamy tent for gazing up at the stars or at a tree canopy. Our son loved hanging out in it when we tested it in our front yard, which is a testimony to its excellent ventilation.

Four massive zippable windows (and a full mesh ceiling) convert the Pronto 5 from a dark cave that’s ideal for sleeping into an open and airy screen room that competes with the best in the business.
I would not use such a tent in a very rainy environment with a lot of wind. Note that the panels must be closed if it is raining, so this cannot be a pleasant place if the rain continues for hours. There are two vents on the roof, but they too must be closed in the case of rain.
