It was lightweight, easy to handle, had a decent run time, was extremely maneuverable, and made a nice clean cut. I thought the adjustable height handles were a real plus, along with both the grass indicator window and springs within the battery compartment that made for an especially easy removal of the battery. It was compact, fairly easy to fold the upper handle onto the lower handle for easy storage, and was quiet. Given the battery run time, you could conceivably mow a large (acre+) lawn with this mower but you’d spend most of your time emptying the grass bag! This feature alone leads me to only recommend the SunJoe mower if you have a small yard to mow. The one supplied is rather small (only 9.26 gallon capacity) and had to be emptied more frequently than some other mowers we tested.

This is Ryobi’s top-of-the-line mower, and its American-made construction is something we wish we saw more of. It delivers a tremendous cut area with its two (6 Ah) batteries providing a total of 12 Ah of capacity, and its X-shaped blade leaves a pristine surface in its wake. Ryobi estimates the design should provide 70 minutes of run time; we didn’t time our cut, but it strikes as plausible. Its rear-wheel drive and reasonably aggressive tread pattern provide good hill climbing and sidehill cutting performance, and its bagging on all surfaces (level, sidehill, and uphill) is also commendable. The straight edge deck is polypropylene; it will never rust and needs very little care other than basic cleaning. While testing the Ryobi 80V HP Brushless 42-inch Battery Riding Lawn Tractor we were impressed with its exceptional cutting performance, long battery runtime, and maneuverability. The electric mower has four steel blades that provide 13 different cutting height positions, ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 inches, for a very precise cut. We found that the mower was able to handle a variety of debris with ease, effectively chopping up sticks, leaves, grass clippings, and even short dandelions that normally would be difficult to cut. You might be tempted to cut lower (and therefore less often), but grass that’s too short is susceptible to heat damage and creates an environment for weeds to thrive.
