I posted about this about two years ago and the other trike is no longer on the road. New trike (got it about a year ago) is now having the same issue as the last. I have a video on twitter that I just did to explain it better. I live in a town where NO ONE does trikes or bikes, and I don’t have any way to take it somewhere to fix. I’m the third owner of this trike and I ride it EVERY day.I noticed a few days ago that I had no resistance when pedaling and then this morning it stopped altogether, I hopped off and checked it.
I also have an Ecotric Beach and Snow e-bike which I purchased years ago before there was the Seagull. It has been great but it isn’t the best for the steep hills of San Francisco. Especially, now that I’m over 65, the extra boost from the schwinn tricycle Seagull’s 1000 Watt motor makes it fun to ride again. I also interviewed product designers, marketers, and owners at four companies that make tricycles, among them a trike designer at Fisher-Price and the VP of product development at Radio Flyer. Beyond the glitz, we found that the Roadster schwinn mountain bike provides a smooth, stable ride, especially compared with similar low-riders made of plastic (like the modern version of the beloved Big Wheel). The Roadster’s size and weight makes it better balanced than our pick, even in fast turns.
The tricycle does not come with a bell, but for less than $10 you can add a perfectly fun one like the Incredibell that kids as young as age 1 can enjoy. The high handlebars and step-through frame are better for riders who experience back pain. Sitting in an upright position puts less stress on the lower back. The rider has less risk of strain when getting on and off the Meridian. The Schwinn Meridian Tricycle for adults makes an excellent commuter bike with its large cargo basket. Many purchasers have also used the Meridian as a gateway to weight loss because its extra balance and weight capacity make it the perfect solution for getting more exercise without causing strain or injury.
Nonetheless, this sturdy, metal tricycle has serious nostalgia appeal. We found that the controlled turning radius made this trike harder to tip than some of the others. But it lacks a back support, adjusts only a bit to accommodate taller riders, and is very heavy at 21¼ pounds.
