Coleman Stoves, Butane & Grills at Ace Hardware

Each burner is controlled independently, allowing for different temperatures on each side of the large cooking area. It can easily provide enough heat to sear steaks and chicken perfectly. With its collapsible design, rear wheels for easy transportation, 16oz propane fuel compatibility, and insta-start ignition, the grill was built with portability and grilling ease in mind.

It also gives an indication how quickly the grill reaches its maximum temperature. What really stands out to me as a benefit is the portability of this grill. The LPG regulator, also included, screws easily into the back of the Coleman grill. It allows you to use the disposable one pound propane canisters. You can also use an adapter hose, not included, to connect to a larger propane source such as a 20lb. The other great improvement is the non-stick removable grease tray.

Ultimately, it’s the RoadTrip X-Cursion’s versatility (it can transform into a steamer with an additional attachment) and high-heat capabilities that earned it top marks. But if you’re looking for an ultra-portable grill you can pack on your back during a hike or long trek to the beach, we recommend one of the smaller tabletop options, instead. We also loved that this unit is designed to be used with the 16-ounce propane canisters but can also be safely used with a full-size propane tank. We purchased an adapter to make the hookup safe and easy to do. No more wasting money on throwaway containers but the option is there if we needed to minimize what we were carrying. The versatility of the Coleman RoadTrip® is what won this unit over for me when compared to others that were similar in price and style.

Are you planning an enjoyable road trip with friends or family? Obviously, no street trip will be really memorable unless you’re able to enjoy delicious meals together. This is going to be particularly simple once you choose the best Coleman gas grill along on the trip. As you’d expect from such a powerhouse, this grill gets super hot and produced an “impeccably crispy” crust during our steak test. Although a bit too large to be considered seriously for camping, the Napoleon also scored high in packability and transport—it collapses “like a stroller,” and has large, hefty wheels. A clip on the lid keeps everything in place in this beach- and apartment-friendly grill.

This grill might not be the smallest, but it’s evident that Coleman took great care in designing the LXE to make sure that is was very easy to set up, tear down and tote around. Of the four areas we considered, the RoadTrip® scored lowest in durability. Right out of the box, within minutes of assembling the grill, I barely bumped the grill on the concrete as coleman grill I was transitioning it into its collapsed position and broke the handle. While this was admittedly due to user error, it shouldn’t have been that easy to break. Coleman does have replacement parts on their website but we were unable to locate this particular part. A little duct tape fixed the problem and the rest of the grill seems sturdy and well made.

The Classic LX has all the features you need to use, setup, clean and store the grill with little effort. It shows everything included and gives you a great look at the Coleman RoadTrip. The controls are conveniently located on the front of the grill. Two knobs let you control the left and right burners independently of each other. This allows indirect cooking and cooking of different items at different heat.

The wheels make it easy to roll the Coleman grill from one spot to another either when folded or in its open position. My short height (5’2”) paired with the weight of the unit made it a bit difficult to load into the pickup truck but my 6’1” husband had no trouble. Two people could easily get the lift necessary to load into a higher truck bed.

As for performance, this model knocked it out of the park, with some of the highest scores we collected for heat regulation and we observed no flare-ups due to rendered fat. We recommend this grill to cooks who are interested in grilling for a crowd, as the XL surface area tends to lose heat quickly when accommodating just one or two pieces of steak or fish. As one of the sturdier models we tested, one tested noted it was a good option for apartment dwellers and those looking to grill occasionally. It packs up efficiently, and when fully assembled has two wing-like side tables that are helpful for prep and tool storage.
