When it comes to cycling, Schwinn is an entry-level brand you will hear a lot about, and they have an incredible heritage when it comes to bikes, especially mountain bikes. To find the best indoor cycling bikes on the market, we tested 13 of the most popular cycling bikes at home, evaluating each bike for four weeks. Our editors (from different fitness backgrounds and varying levels of experience with indoor cycling bikes) tested each one on at least eight rides—a minimum of two per week—throughout the four-week testing period. It’s good for taking the sting off some hits, and in my opinion better than a rigid fork, but that’s about it. IGNAZ SCHWINN was born in the little town of Hardheim, province of Baden, Germany. The second of seven children, his father died when he was eleven and Ignaz was sent to vocational school. Frank reduced the wheel diameter from 28” to 26” and fattened the tire width from 1 1/8” to 2 1/8”. Little did the Schwinns know, they gave mountain biking its tire. The balloon tire popularized by the Schwinns had the same wheel diameter, cross-sectional diameter and carcass construction as the tires used by the Marin County pioneers in the 1970’s.

Kleyer manufactured some of the first “safety” bicycles in Germany. It was called “safe” because the rider could put their feet on the ground while seated as opposed to the high wheeled “ordinary”. About 1889, Ignaz helped plan and supervise the constructing and equipping of a new factory for Kleyer, which grew to become the great schwinn mountain bike “Alder Works”. This bike is suited to shorter people than the Traxion, so Schwinn has given it smaller wheels at the size of 26″. This makes it much better for the user and does add a lot of control to the rider but takes away some top speed. Schwinn Traxion is an absolute beast, and this bike has some excellent capabilities.
