The tight turning radius allows for good maneuverability, and the bike never felt unsafe. Though it folds into a compact package, it’s quite heavy at 62.5 lbs, so lifting it into a trunk or carrying it up a flight of stairs can be difficult. All that said, this value-oriented foldable model is a great option for anyone short on storage or seeking a compact e-bike. Standover height is essentially the distance between the top tube and the ground at the point where you stand over the bar. This is an important measurement to get right because you’ll want some space between your groin and the bar when you hop off the seat.
29ers and 27.5+ bikes have faster top speeds and roll over obstacles easier than 26-inch wheels, so if you want to ride off-road, you’ll appreciate bigger tires. 26-inch wheels are often great for kids who have graduated from their 24-inch kids bike but aren’t quite big huffy mountain bike enough to use the bigger wheels found on most adult bikes. As with traditional road bikes (and gravel bikes too), their motorized counterparts have sporty forward-leaning geometry, narrow tires, and lightweight frames, all with performance and efficiency in mind.
As mountain bike design evolved, manufacturers were able to find more capable performance with different tube lengths and angles. With longer, more sloped top tubes and dropper post-ready designs (and more variations across brands), the seat tube is no longer the best way to approximate a bike’s size. Road bikes will often use measurements in centimeters to denote frame sizes.
Hybrid bikes like commuters and fitness bikes are great all-arounders that are extremely versatile and often very affordable. Most hybrid bikes use a Small/Medium/Large measurement system, but you might find a few companies who still use inches as the size denotation. So, all else being equal, people biking in Miami in August are going to have higher pressure in their
tires than people biking in Boston in January. In addition to weather, sustained deceleration using rim
brakes generates friction that can increase temperatures inside the tube significantly.
The Rad Wagon comes standard with a bigger battery and range, but you can add a second battery to the Blix, giving it a much larger range. Both score close, have similar performance, and are about the same price. We recommend pricing out the exact accessory package you want for each bike and comparing which offers the better value. We found the Vika+ Flex huffy cruiser bike to be our test group’s most well-rounded folding model, but it still has some minor drawbacks. With a rigid frame and comparatively narrower tires, it sometimes feels less forgiving over rougher terrain. Of course, the nature of its folding design and smaller wheels means it doesn’t have the same composure as the larger wheeled, non-folding competition.
It has a respectable range, but it was bested slightly in that metric by bikes with bigger, heavier batteries. Those concerns aside, the Vika+ Flex proved to offer a high level of performance in a convenient folding package, making it the best folding model we tested. They have a more relaxed and upright riding position and are made for long and slow outings down the neighborhood bike path or on the side street that leads to the beach. These typically have a very user-friendly interface and have the option for a step-through frame design to make mounting and dismounting easier for most people. They may not be as powerful or speedy as some other models, but they provide a boost to your pedaling efforts and are fun and comfortable to ride.
