Coleman Coolers Liner Coleman Xtreme Wheeled Cooler

If you’re a serious hunter or angler, you need a cooler large enough to store your kill or catch for the journey home. This oversized 100-quart cooler from Coleman certainly fits the bill. The Coleman 316 series coolers are fully insulated and can keep ice for up to five days in temperatures of up to 90°F. Durable wheels and a sturdy tow handle make hauling heavy loads much more manageable, and the have-a-seat lid can hold up to 250 pounds. This cooler can also hold up to 160 cans, making it a fantastic option for storing drinks during sports tournaments, company picnics, or any large outdoor event. Coleman makes hard coolers large and small, whereas its soft coolers are smaller and more suited for outdoor adventures.

In addition to wheels, many Coleman coolers come with other special features, including cup holders and easy-to-use two-way handles. On top of some coolers being built for sitting, many of them are built for stacking, making them more easily accessible. Others are explicitly built for keeping your haul on-ice during a fishing trip. Choosing the right Coleman cooler really depends on what type of trip or event you are taking your cooler to.

In our testing, the Coleman Xtreme kept ice frozen for a full week (170 hours), 30 hours longer than the Igloo MaxCold (140 hours). It measures 28.4 by 15.8 by 17.5 inches, its design incorporates bevels and angles all over the place, and coleman camping chair it has a ruler and cup holders molded into its lid. Insulation obsessives may want to fill those cup holders with Styrofoam, but considering how well this cooler performed in our tests, doing so doesn’t seem to be all that critical.

Its 70-liter capacity is large enough for a family cookout or several days at a campsite. It has cup holders and hinged handles for convenience, and it’s a hell of a lot stronger than the flimsy styrofoam coolers at the gas station. I’ll be honest in saying that it doesn’t offer the same kind of performance and durability as trendy, more expensive coolers, but it’s also about a third of the price. If you’re looking for the ultimate hard cooler for tailgate parties, check out the Coleman 316 Series 62-quart ice chest. This heavy-duty cooler has six-inch wheels and swing-up handles for long hauls. The lid can support up to 250 pounds of weight and features four cup holders with molded channels that drain excess liquid.

In fact, the only concern I had was that my beer would freeze because the cooler’s internal temperature stayed at 30 degrees overnight. Not only is it effective enough for a hot summer cookout, but I’d also trust it with a week’s supply of food at a campsite. Remember that I tested this cooler with three bags of ice and opened the lid every hour (during the day) to read the thermometer. More expensive coolers have their advantages, but I can’t fault the Xtreme 5’s ability to stay cold. At this price, it’s nice to see a few convenience features that separate the Xtreme 5 from entry-level coolers.

The temperature hovered there for two hours before dipping further to 38 degrees. I checked every hour, expecting to monitor a gradual coleman canopy increase as the sun and warm air saturated the insulation. By the time I went to bed, the temperature had reached 34 degrees.

A. Coleman claims that the Xtreme 5 can preserve ice for five days. Your results will depend on the ambient temperature, what kind of food and drinks you store, how much ice you use, and how often the cooler is opened. While I wish the Xtreme 5 was a little more robust, its lightweight construction does make it easier to transport. Coolers are awkward to carry because of their size and shape, even when they aren’t particularly heavy. This one weighed in at just a touch more than 10 pounds with a 12-pack of cans and three bags of ice; totally manageable.

Bang for the buck is one area where the Coleman Xtreme 5 is very strong. Its job is to keep food and drinks cold, and it does that exceptionally well. Not only did its internal temperature stay cool 24 hours after I filled it with beer and ice, it actually fell from an initial 40 degrees to an overnight low of 30 degrees.
