Kent Bicycles launches e-bike for children electric bike reviews, buying advice and news

The motor doesn’t add any assist unless the rider is pedaling, and the assist cuts out immediately when pedaling stops. Shimano Tourney TX800 8-speed derailleur and shifters are paired with a no-name crank and mechanical disc brakes. Lukas also said if riders do not park their vehicles in the correct zones they will continue to be charged until it is corrected.

The e-bikes and e-scooters will be available to the entire Kent community. Electrek reports that the steel-framed Torpedo sports a 180W 24V rear hub motor with a 125Wh battery. Needless to say, it’s pedal assist, so it’s definitely a bike and not a mini e-motorbike thing. Mid-drive motors are one of the two most common electric bike drivetrains, with the other being hub motors.

SPIN shared eScooters and eBikes must park within one of the designated SPIN GeoZones to end any ride. When riders end a trip, they must park in the GeoZone that appears on the app or SPIN may issue fines for non-compliance. If a ride ends outside of a GeoZone, SPIN will email the user with a warning. If non-compliance continues to be a problem, SPIN may issue a fine. SPIN will relocate bikes and eScooters throughout the day and ensure that they are parked in GeoZones.

To combat some of the weight issues and to beef up the ruggedness of my bike, I added higher-end front forks and installed new “run flat” tubes. On my second test ride, a short 4-mile singletrack trail my wife and I ride each week, I popped both the front and rear tire tubes, probably due to my weight stressing the tubes.

With a price of $1,498, Kent’s mid-drive e-bike certainly isn’t competing with the several thousand dollar models that use German mid-drive motors, and so it likely opts for a Chinese motor. That isn’t a bad thing, as many riders (including myself) have been very happy with lower-cost mid-drive motors. But when the bike was pointed uphill, the performance was much less impressive.
