Pit Boss® 4-Burner Ultimate Lift-Off Griddle

A standard grill features numerous rungs with gaps in between to allow your food to cook directly over a heat source like charcoal or gas. Anyone in the market for big griddles should definitely consider the Pit Boss 4-burner gas griddle. I tested the ceramic griddle top with ground beef burgers, ground lamb burgers, chicken breast, vegetables and toasting buns. You can almost use this griddle dry, as food easily slides across the surface – you wouldn’t dare think of doing that with the original steel surface. The steel surface is porous whereas the ceramic griddle is sealed.

However, cast iron does create slight differences in heat zone depending on where the head is being applied. So, can you still make foods that require an on-the-griddle “chopping” method like cheese steaks or Chopped Cheese sandwiches? While the grease trap is in the front (which I’m a huge fan of), I don’t particularly like the design.

The Pit Boss features a robust 749 square inches of cooking area, which is tops in the 4-burner griddle space. If you have a large family, regularly host large gatherings, or just want to expedite meal-prep sunday, this griddle surface can handle it all. That helps to create the smokey flavor and quality sear you’re looking pit boss pellets for when you’re cooking meat. It also makes it a little less versatile as a cooking surface and means that you should expect to spend a little more time on maintenance in the process. All in all, it’s a great griddle to own and I’ve been very happy with my experience with the Pit Boss griddle these last several months. Even after initially putting it together, I noticed how solid it felt. There’s no give in the stand, the unit itself doesn’t feel wobbly at all, and the wheels, hood, legs, and shelves all feel solid and well built. While I pretty much NEVER use the bottle opener or trash bag holder on the Pit Boss griddle, the paper towel holder is definitely a nice feature to have. So whether you want to save money on oil or you just like the idea of using less oil in your cooking, this is a pro for me. There are a number of mounts and stands for the Magma Crossover.

Another major plus is its vented dome cover, which gives the option of steaming, roasting, and even baking—a feature other flat-top grills lack. It also features space beneath the grill surface to hide the propane tank, four wheels with two locking castors, a folding prep table, and a towel rack. Expect extras such pit boss pellets as folding side-serving shelves, a wide storage shelf underneath, hooks for grilling tools, and removable grease buckets. Most flat-top grills also have locking castors and powder-coating to prevent rust—these ones can be stored outside. Some flat-top grills feature folding legs for storage or portability.
