You should also empty your drip tray to prevent making a mess in your vehicle. Weber knows how to make a very nice grill, and they’ve put out some top-notch portables. The stand is easy to operate, with clear indicators for raising and lowering it. Since the base is included, you won’t need to hunt for a safe cooking surface or crouch down to flip burgers, but it requires a little more storage space and room in your trunk. The Char-Broil Grill2Go X200 Portable Gas Grill is a solid compact grill weber portable grill for remote cookouts because it’s rugged, lightweight, and easy to carry. It’s not as good as our Weber picks at searing food, but it heats evenly and is easy to use. Then we grilled bone-in chicken to test for flare-ups and how well the gas and charcoal grills could sustain a medium-low cooking temperature over 45 minutes.

It’s just that, as an elder of Gen X, it’s hard to believe the grilling technologies on the market have replaced the often life-threatening pieces of equipment that were commonplace in my youth. They also happen to be easy to move, light, cool, clean, and repack on top of that performance. For the purpose of this review, we’ll be discussing gas grills exclusively, although we did review portable charcoal grills here. Curious about which portable grills were worth buying, we tested seven popular models from trusted brands. Some portable gas grills have built-in stands that collapse for storage, and these models often have wheels that make them easy to pull behind you.

With a bit of clever design, this model collapses to a size that can be wheeled around and transported into spaces that are a fraction of the size of where most pellet grills can fit. The controls for this grill are digital, allowing you to select the exact temperature you need for the cut you’re cooking. If the controls weren’t precise enough, there are two digital thermometer probes so that you know exactly when your meat’s internal temperature has reached the perfect point. There’s no need for piezo buttons, a lighter, or starter fluid with this grill because the ignitor is electric.

The tightly fitting vents are tough to adjust without gloves, and it takes time to skillfully manage these adjustments for perfect airflow. But we can assure you that with practice, this portable grill can allow you to master the art of cooking over an open flame and produce delicious food in the process, even on weber charcoal grill the go. The Grillster is an excellent option for searing steaks and other high-temperature cooking, but controlling the overall range on this rip-roaring grill is challenging. Unless our goal was blackened chicken or blistered peppers, we rarely found ourselves using anything other than the lowest gas setting.

It’ll still fit in the trunk of most cars, but it definitely takes up a considerable amount of space. I haven’t used the fancier models, but this basic four-serving one served me well for years. You can pull the grills out for easy cleaning, there’s a drip pan to catch all the grease, and if you’re not in the grilling mood, it doubles as a Panini press. That’s a lot of hype, and I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but the Takibi lives up to the hype and then some. It folds flat, leaving more room in your trunk; the grill top is a grid so small things won’t fall through, and when you’re done cooking it turns into a fire pit.

The Cuisinart All Foods Roll-Away scored the lowest in wind resistance. We grew frustrated at the number of times we had to re-light this model in high winds. The Weber Q 1200 comes with a disposable aluminum drip tray insert that you can place in the more permanent drip tray. This is nice for aiding with cleanup, but it’s not very wind-resistant, so it usually ended up on the ground after flying away in windy conditions. This can be remedied by doing away with this disposable part or just by putting a rock in it.

The Weber Traveler operates on a portable-sized 14.1 or 16.4 ounce propane cylinder (sold separately). This Stealth Edition Weber Traveler features a sleek, blacked-out finish. The Weber Q 1200 portable gas BBQ grill offers 189 square inches of cooking space to create the grilled foods you love anytime, anywhere. Weber Q gas grills are perfect for tailgating, camping or small spaces like apartment balconies. The durable stainless steel burner produces 8,500 BTUs and the infinite control burner valve allows you to set it to the precise temperature you need with an easy-to-use knob. This Weber portable gas grill features two folding work tables so you have space to spread out, each with convenient tool hooks.

Fans have added thermometers, fastened knobs to make it easier to open and close vents, attached hanging ashcans, and come up with creative ways to cook taller items, like beer-can chicken. This weber bbq is not a comprehensive list of all the models we’ve considered. To get the most out of the Grill2Go, be sure to clean it properly and store it somewhere out of the elements (or at least covered).
