Even so, the PRO-300 has the edge for printing on matte and fine art media, with its more robust pigment-based inks and additional matte black ink cartridge. There are individual channels in the print head for both photo and matte black inks saving time and ink when swapping between media types. Excellent output quality combines superb accuracy for color prints and fabulous definition for black & white photo prints, without any unwanted color casts. The motorized output tray adds a touch of automation and the onboard controls are simple and intuitive, based on an OLED screen. As usual with document/photo printers, there’s a built-in scanner, ideal for creating photocopies, but this model lacks a memory card slot for direct photo printing, although it does have built-in Bluetooth.
It also comes in good packaging and can print photos of different resolutions. And if you own an Epson 1270 Printer, then this is the best photo paper for you. It produces great photos with this printer and is fade-resistant. Your photos and albums will get dried instantly as they are being printed.
It will print in large format, and with the aid of its expansive color palette, it produces vibrant colors that come out nicely across all print formats. While the Canon IVY 2 makes printing as easy as pushing a button on your phone, its functionality is limited, and the cost per print is high. It can only print on one kind of paper and in one set of dimensions, and that can’t possibly compete with a fully-fledged desktop printer. Even with these small downsides, it still manages to outperform its predecessor, the Canon IVY with a much faster charging time, slightly higher resolution prints, and enhanced photo customization within the easy-to-use app. Given all the praises we’ve showered this marvel of modern home printing with, you may be wondering, what’s the catch? The Epson SureColor P700 is expensive and is made more so because the inks that come with the machine are “starter” cartridges that will quickly be exhausted.
Here’s some more fun math — once you print 3,500 4x6s, you’ll have paid for the cost of the printer, assuming a 20 cent saving on each print. Of course, you don’t buy a printer that can print 13 by 9 to spit out tiny prints. With the cost of larger prints from a printing house, photographers will save the cost of the printer itself much faster. The second issue is that the entire rear of the printer needs to be put back in order to print from another tray.
This model stands out for its support for up to four different print sizes, some with adhesive backing and some without. (Supporting smaller than the default 4-by-6-inch size requires a cheap adapter tray.) It’s relatively fast and produces high-quality prints at very competitive running costs.
