Fat Bikes

No other BBS02 drive system on the market as of yet has this feature. There were a couple of aspects of the Beast that made it a challenge to ride for extended periods of time. For instance, I wasn’t overly fond of the stock seat that comes with the bike.

The Beast is built like a tank and its steel frame feels incredibly solid. That means it can survive just about any road or trail conditions that you can throw at it. In my time with the bike I didn’t get the sense that it was in danger of falling apart or that Mongoose had cut corners on its construction. Installing a geared or direct drive hub (Mac, BPM or 9C) motor in a fatbike can be a daunting task. Although you can easily mount a rear hub (135mm) into the front wheel of most fatbikes (which tend to be 135mm spacing) having a front wheel drive fatbike is a total wast of time.

Here are some options for installing a BBS02 on a fat-bike. Puncture-resistant tires prevent punctures by thorns and glass while riding.Anti-skidding, wear resistant, adapt to city, snow, sand, dirt and various terrains. In addition, with 24-inch wheels, my son’s bikes are getting big enough that mongoose fat tire bike I am able to ride them without damaging anything. I’m not taking them off jumps or going for sustained rides, but just trying to get the feel and experience of the machine. The weight of the bike is nearly 34 pounds (15.04 kg) and it shows. That is almost as heavy as MY full suspension fat bike.

They slowed my son’s riding down when needed but functioned as any mechanical brake set would. They are not hydraulic and even I could feel that when testing myself. The job is getting done but there is more arm pump and fatigue when wrestling more weight with a lower grade brake system. Mongoose made a sound decision considering the weight that a child must pedal. Having a wider gear range makes for a versatile bike that can conquer the terrain. To be honest, I don’t think my son has ever used a front derailleur until now.

6) Purchase a modification package from Doug at California E-bike and modify your own BBS02 to 100mm. This modification package does not require any special milling tools and can be done in any decent bike shop. The modification package is $499 plus $35 S/H available here and the tool package for doing the conversion is $345 plus $35 S/H found here. If you only want to do one conversion you can return the tool package for a $300 credit, but you must specify that when ordering the package.

The stem and handlebar are also branded as Xposure components. A Sunrace cassette and KMC chain round out the drive train. Bright headlight provides a brighter, safer and more enjoyable environment for night riding. The unique LED circle illuminates your path while making you easily visible to others.

The 26-inch fat tires allow for a more comfortable and free ride. The rigid frame works well for snow and sand riding but loses ability in comparison to a suspended mountain bike. The Argus just so happens to be capable enough for trail riding too. The P6 fat tire electric bike is a stylish and practical model for your commute. Get to the office on time, roll quickly through the urban jungle and discover the new all-terrain and Fat Tire Hiboy electric mountain bike with electric assist.

I can’t attest to how well it rides in the snow (It’s still quite warm here in Austin), but I did ride through sand and deep sawdust, without missing a beat. Those big tires practically ignore rocks and logs on the trail too and they still manage to transition back to the road without too much of problem. Get to the office on time, roll quickly through the urban jungle and discover the new all-terrai.

We started Rascal Rides when Parker was born and we didn’t want to give up our passion for biking. Over the years, we’ve tested hundreds of kids bikes, helmets, bike trailers, and more. My son moved downhill pretty quick, but not as rapidly as on his Trailcraft. He managed to get through the rocky, technical sections of our local test run and did have a smile on his face. It is still a rigid bike and that shows in the speeds and ability to descend. If you were wanting to replace the rigid fork with a suspension fork, then you would probably be hard pressed to find a fat fork that would fit.

If you’re a self-proclaimed bike snob like myself your first reaction to being asked to ride a bike sold at Walmart is probably to turn up your nose and shudder in fear. After all, I own helmets that cost more than most of the bike sold in the big box stores. So when I was asked to test out the the Beast from Mongoose a agreed, although with a bit of trepidation. Despite my reservations however, I ended up having a great time on this bike, proving that when you put aside your preconceptions, even a $200 bike can surprise you. I’ve been using the Hiboy P6 Fat Tire Electric Bike for several months now, and I’m highly impressed with its performance and durability. The bike’s components are of high quality, and it feels solidly built.
