Kent’s low-cost full-suspension mid-drive e-bike has Walmart moving on up

To see how much fun the Kent Torpedo e-bike is, check out my video review below! Then keep reading for my complete thoughts and testing (yes, I rode it too!). The history of Kent begins in the early 1900s, when American immigrant Abraham Kamler started refurbishing bicycles in New York City. In 1909, Kamler established his own bicycle store on the Lower East Side.

I have a Truckrun motor on my daily rider city e-bike, and it works wonderfully. Cheaper mid-drive electric bikes tend to opt for Chinese-made mid-drive motors like those from Bafang, Truckrun, Tongsheng, and others. If they can swing it, I 100% recommend grabbing a second battery. It’s about the size of a small water bottle and easy to stick in your bag when the family goes on a ride. It can help your kids ride even longer, extending that family Sunday ride even further than 15 miles (25 km).

On my test ride, I chose a 5-mile path at Smithgall Woods State Park that alternated between asphalt and gravel. On the gravelly bits, the e-bike performed well, kicking in enough power to keep the momentum going on the climbs and cutting off on the downhills. When I moved to Kennesaw, Georgia, to be near my CrossFit gym, I noticed several well-known MTB trails in the area. No longer a teenager, I purchased a custom-made name-brand MTB from a local bike shop and rode the forks off it—literally. Having not ridden Kent’s new e-bike (yet, but hopefully that changes), it’s hard for me to judge it too hard on the spec sheet alone.

The perfect choice for riders who are looking for a comfortable, and efficient ride. Crafted with a step-thru aluminum frame, this bike is lightweight and easy to mount and dismount. The removable semi-integrated battery ensures that you can charge your bike wherever and whenever you need to, and it’s lockable with a key to prevent theft. The 8-speed drivetrain provides a plenty of gearing range for hilly terrain, and the trigger shifter is easy to use.

The power in medium mode setting appears to be a nice, contented middle ground. The assist motor makes the 39.4 lb e-bike feel lighter than its actual weight. While the motor helps to compensate for the extra weight, e-bikes can still be much more kent hybrid bike difficult to maneuver than standard bikes. This is especially true for tweens and teens who ride adult e-bikes weighing up to 70 pounds. Kid-specific e-bikes are typically lighter than adult bikes, but they are also significantly more expensive.

But the motor only adds assist when the rider is pedaling. It appears to be as good as, if not slightly better than, the others. It should be simple enough for most individuals to assemble, as long as you have the proper Allen Key set.

Find a collection of adult bikes that are a great choice to ride on country roads, trails, gravel paths or anywhere you want to ride. They come with oversized gravel-tread tires that take you over mixed surfaces. Look through a variety of adult bikes with features like raised position, speed, kent electric bike ergonomic saddle, height-adjustable stem, soft-touch grips and more. Explore a large collection of adult bikes to find the perfect one for you. It’s almost certainly an advantage that kids can’t use this. Children should reach a particular age to handle the increased power of electric bikes.
