The Cherry was not for me, but as my first cherry it was good enough that I’m intrigued to try other, hopefully more forgiving blends in that direction. Captain Black can be smoked in any pipe you enjoy using. However, it is the advice of our experts that if you smoke different types of ohm tobacco tobacco with different flavors, you may want to consider dedicating a pipe to each one. Some resins from certain pipe tobaccos can seep inside the wood and affect the tobacco taste. Nearly all pipe tobaccos have some degree of flavoring added, from rum to peach and anything in between.

A Beloved blend enjoyed by almost everyone who considers themselves a pipe smoker. Black Cavendish cased with sweet vanilla makes up the base, with Burley and Virginia playing their part perfectly. A creamy, smooth, and always fulfilling smoke has been the joy of every captain black tobacco pipe smoker who has embraced Captain Black Regular (White). This tastes like the cherry lip gloss my older sister would buy and I would try to eat like candy. After a few puffs a faint vanilla joins the cherry. The more apparent and prominent the scent of your tobacco, the more intensive the room note. Similar to wine or beer, tobacco body refers to the depth and fullness of flavor. In the last week I have smoked three different versions of Captain Black in Corn Cob Pipes and in a Savinelli Venezia and an Aldo Velani Volcano.

Captain Black Gold is well not quite gold, but in that direction. Most distinctly its much finer in cut than the other two Captain Black products reviewed here. It’s not shag but this will lead to a pretty quick burn without careful packing and puffing. Lane Ltd. changed hands several times over the decades, but the heart of the company – the folks who actually produce the tobacco – has remained consistent. In fact, there are employees at the Tucker facility who also worked at the original plant in Manhattan.
