In our most epic adventure to date, Sophie and Jérémy set off for a two-and-a-half-year journey from Alaska to Patagonia – the length of the Americas! On board a pair of Longitudes, they aim to finish in December 2019.Back at home, Alex Staniforth covers the UK’s 100 highest points on bike, foot and – if needed – kayak! Our Vapour genesis bike gets the carbon treatment, the Zero goes disc, while Connor Swift races a prototype Zero SL to victory at its first outing. The groupset is Shimano Tiagra with a 2×10 drivetrain while the maximum tyre size is 25c. For those interested in dipping their toes into racing, or just want a sportier feeling bike, the Zeal range is Genesis’ entry level carbon option. The geometry is more aggressive than the endurance-oriented Equilibrium, but not quite as ‘head-down bum-up’ as the dedicated racers that are the Zeros. A solid steel range and a smattering of aluminium and carbon models brings the brand bang up to date. 500 watt direct drive motor is quiet and capable but offers less torque and weighs more, no regen modes. Simple to operate with LED console and twist throttle only, no pedal assist or LCD……
Genesis created the personalities and graphics for bikes built for the world’s diverse cultures. You can see our work for Giant in the grueling Tour de France, on Tokyo commuter streets, and in a garage much like your own. Versatility still pervades the frame, with downtube bottle bosses and mounts for a rear rack and mudguards. Although this bike can take on the commuting duties or a bit of cycle-touring, it is more suited to lively riding in the woods and on bridleways. There are three different spec levels, with 10 being the entry level, 20 the mid-range and 30 being the top of this range. For the entry level, you’ll get a Shimano Claris 2×8 drivetrain, an aluminium frame and carbon fork.
