If you plan to use it during summer, you may want to consider taking advantage of its e-port to run a tent air conditioner. Finally, keep in mind that this is a single wall shelter, which means there’s a lot riding on the quality of the tent fabric and seams. Plenty of customers swear by the Ozark Trail Yurt’s waterproofing, but we recommend treating it with an extra DWR treatment and sealing any missing seams before putting it to work.
But with so much mesh on the ceiling, I would not use this tent in a cold climate. And now, here’s all the testing that I did with this Ozark Trail tent, and of course, I’ll show you why I don’t really like it that much. Otherwise, there are plenty of other tents out there that are better than this. For all the reasons mentioned above, we’ve found that the Ozark Trail Three Room Instant Cabin is the best Ozark Trail tent overall.
There’s a lot to love here, but as the Ozark Trail Three Room Instant Cabin is still a budget department store tent, you’ll want to be aware of a few shortcomings. First, although this is an instant tent, the unique layout and integrated awning make setup a little more involved than most. Second, the tall vertical walls and “L” shape make it about as far from aerodynamic as they come. Do NOT phone in the guyline portion of set-up (regardless of the weather) or you’ll risk damaging the tent.
But unlike the Mineral King 3 and the Tungsten 4, the mesh on each Base Camp tent starts high on the walls—more than 4 feet from the ground. This design is a big plus for people who regularly camp in crowded campgrounds and don’t like to get naked in front of strangers. The material of the tent body and rainfly are made of 68D coated polyester fabric. Apart from the roof though, there’s not a lot of mesh from the 5 windows and the door, because they’re not very big. Because it’s ridiculously inexpensive, the quality, design and weather protection isn’t the best, though I think it’ll work decently in summer (without rain, of course). When you’re not sleeping, you can still keep the rooms open and fold back the doors for a lovely roomy and airy feel. With the versatility of 3 rooms, we love how well this tent would work in a group or family camping situation.
