Ozark Trail 40F Mummy Sleeping Bag Reviews

The rugged materials make this bag heavy-duty enough to do it all without worries of rips, tears, or snagged zippers. I purchased this sleeping bag for warm weather camping trips at the local lake. For fifteen dollars I wasn’t expecting (or needing) anything that would stand up to freezing weather. Unfortunately the workmanship was more than a little upsetting, even for that price. In this review, we highlight our favorite sleeping bags from a range of sleeping bag categories.

It performed best in the Ozark Trail 2 person tent as we popped a Trespass sleeping bag liner in to give an extra layer of warmth and comfort. Trailspace’s community of gear reviewers has ozark trail canopy field-tested and rated the top warm weather sleeping bags. Once you know the broad type of sleeping bag you’re interested in, there are several other factors to consider. These include insulation type, temperature, weight, packed size, and comfort.

If you’re looking for a bag with exceptional comfort we love the Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed 20. It’s a bit pricier, but you’re guaranteed a super cozy night’s sleep. At this price point, we weren’t expecting greatness from the Coleman Brazos. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the warmth of this bag when we used it on a few chilly nights in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Our testers believe it truly lived up to its 0° F temperature rating. They were also delighted with the wider dimensions of this bag compared to many other winter bags. Its high-quality 850 fill power goose down was some of the best at maintaining excellent loft despite numerous compression cycles. For the folks seeking the absolute best sleeping bag, we recommend the Western Mountaineering MegaLite. This ultra-premium model utilizes 12 ounces of 850+ fill power down to create a cozy cocoon of outstanding comfort. Our testers appreciated the more generous dimensions of the MegaLite compared to other products at its price point.

Your own preferences and uses may push you towards another rating. Summer campers, however, will probably be happier in a 40° F model. If you find that your sleeping bag doesn’t seem to be living up to its temperature rating, the issue is most likely your sleeping pad.

Adult sleeping bag, measures 6.5 feet long – in excellent condition, zipper works great very clean. The Ozark Trail sleeping bag comes with a compression sack to make packing easier. The sleeping bag is still fairly large and is by no means ultra light.

It is easy to get in and out of, since the zipper runs down to your feet. It is water resistant, but not waterproof, and it stores extremely well. When it’s in the compression sack it comes with, it’s about 12 inches tall and 5 inches wide. The bag is machine-washable and the lightweight design fits easily in both the washer and dryer. What bothers me the most, (and the main reason I gave it 2 stars) is that the fabric is hidden and not obvious until you get it out of the package and unzip it all of the way. If they wanted to skimp on fabric, it should have been used on the outside and bottom of the bag!

Models that exhibit these characteristics we label as ‘backpacking’ sleeping bags. Just be aware that lighter and more compressible bags and usually more expensive. We believe the astronomical prices of some high-end sleeping bags won’t make sense to the average backpacker. For these folks, we suggest selecting a better value, such as the Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 15. This is our favorite budget bag because it combines 650-fill power down in a simple mummy design that offers a solid balance of performance characteristics.
