Nicotine was extracted from each cigarette and tobacco samples and was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. One of the brands (Kent) tested in Japan were the same as what we analyzed in Iran. The average amounts of nicotine were 11.24 and 14.61 mg, and percentage of nicotine were 1.71% and 1.80% in each of these cigarette analyzed in Japan and in Iran, respectively. I have to admit, I am not going to win a slow smoking contest anytime soon. I usually have to re-light about 4 – 6 times, sometimes more when I smoke a pipe.
