Made from an easy-to-clean polyester fabric and metal frame. During a camping trip, I sat in a friend’s REI Flexlite Camp Boss, which is a larger version of REI’s Flexlite line of chairs that we mention in the competition. It was surprisingly comfortable and more stable than the Flexlite and Flexlite Air that we tested. We look forward to having a testing panel compare it to our top lightweight pick. It has the highest weight capacity and largest seat of any chair we tested. Out of all the chairs we tested, this chair’s capacity—800 pounds—is the highest (the next-highest is the Yeti Trailhead’s 500-pound weight limit).

Cots generally have a lot of space underneath them compared to other sleeping options. While it has a few shortcomings, these are generally easy to fix and overlook.
Buy a mesh bag for storage, attach a D-Ring, and clamp it onto one of the chair’s support struts. It would be overselling it to call this a handsome chair. That term rarely applies to camp chairs, but it’s not bad-looking. If you want something in camo, this isn’t your chair. Your only color options are red or blue, both with black trim.

But where camp chairs are concerned, it’s not the end of the world. These are occasional seating options, and you won’t typically spend such extended periods sitting in one that it starts to be an issue. Senior editor Kalee Thompson, who wrote a previous version of this guide, has been regularly using the Coleman chair she originally tested in 2016. The chair has held up to years of backyard hangs and camping trips, although the cooler pouch has deteriorated, and some parts of the fabric close to the frame have frayed. That’s because it’s among the most durable and comfortable chairs we’ve tested. It’s large enough to accommodate a wide range of body types, and its steel frame supports up to 325 pounds. Normally, we’d caution against buying a chair with a significantly wider seat than you need. In the case of a recliner or lounge chair, it matters because if the seat is too wide, you won’t be able to use more than one of the armrests effectively.
