Michelin CrossClimate: A New Type of Tire

The CrossClimate2 offers full depth siping that provides excellent traction in wet and snowy conditions throughout the life of the tire. The Crossclimate 2 is an all-season grand touring tire from Michelin. Compared to regular touring tires, grand touring tires have a higher speed rating and better overall performance. With this, you can expect to have great traction and handling even at high speed. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is a performance, all weather tire manufactured for passenger vehicles and SUVs. The tire offers excellent year-round traction, also ensuring its severe winter traction.

Please note that slush is also tested but completed in a specific slush cornering test.. Although the center section of the tire has gaps that sometimes create noise with the wind, the noise level is still low compared to other touring and grand touring tires. The Crossclimate 2 may have an advantage in overall performance as a grand touring tire, but the Defender tires can be more suitable for rough road conditions. The new Michelin CrossClimate is clearly an interesting tire and one that I’m eager to test in Europe — and, hopefully, the U.S.

All four are great tires, but as we are comparing a grand touring tire to standard touring tires, the Crossclimate 2 surely has a slight advantage. Given that the UK suffers from moderate and interchangeable winter conditions – with severe ice and snow becoming uncommon for much of the country – this makes all season tyres a very good choice for our roads. The majority of automobiles in the U.S. carry all-season michelin cross climate tires. Enthusiasts sometimes refer to them by another name — no-season tires — as most don’t perform particularly well in either the summer or the winter, sacrificing top-level performance in order to work marginally well in all conditions. The Michelin CrossClimate 2 is unlike any other all-season tire in terms of design, featuring a V-formation directional tread pattern similar to a summer performance tire.

Ranges are expressed using a number and the higher the number, the stronger the tire. These measurements are primarily for light trucks and SUV’s. It is not advised to fit just two all season tyres, when you do encounter snow or ice the grip imbalance is so high it can cause very dangerous situations. The tire is also capable of assaulting deeper snow, though in this case, I’d recommend a proper winter tire.

In the absence of specific recommendations by the vehicle manufacturer, use the following guidelines based on those in the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization Standards Manual. (2) According to Desrosiers Automotive Consultants, average km driven per vehicle is around 22,500 km in Canada. Michelin CrossClimate 2 is a Premium Touring All Season Tire with directional tread pattern, designed for Passenger cars and SUV. Yes, the CC2 and CC2 SUV are just naming differences and are available in differing sizes and load ratings.

First, this represents how most Canadians would normally drive on that surface in each season. Second, testing in both seasons provides an indication of how a tire’s performance will be affected by road temperature. For high-speed driving, additional inflation pressure and possibly reduced tire loading and/or upsizing is required.

This tire can be identified by the 3PMS symbol on the sidewall of the tire. Improved rolling resistance makes the EV much more efficient to maximize battery life & longevity of the tire. Wider rib patterns on the tread increase traction & prevent hydroplaning. A tire’s section width (also called “cross section width”) is the measurement of the tire’s width from its inner sidewall to its outer sidewall (excluding any protective ribs, decorations or raised letters) at the widest point. What makes up a tire; each ply, the sidewall, the tread, and bead. The total width of the tire, including any raised features on the sidewall.

Split fitments – If your vehicle has tires of different sizes on the front versus the rear axles, your tires cannot be rotated as recommended. Therefore, the mileage warranty on each rear tire will cover half the number of miles as the standard mileage warranty for that particular tire line. ZP (Zero Pressure) tires – The maximum mileage warranty for ZP tires is 30,000 miles. Michelin’s Defender line consists of well-rounded touring and highway tires. They have excellent performance on dry and wet surfaces while providing a comfortable and quiet ride.
