Whilst they are optional, the carbon filters remove any nasties from your water. And since one of the main parts of coffee is water, we recommend keeping this to the highest quality you can. This is a common keurig classic feature on more expensive single-serve machines, including the Keurig 2.0. So if you find the coffee is a bit weak, you’ll need to try more pods until you find one more appropriate for your tastes.
I was using distilled water, and it was almost like the particulate in the water was so low that the coffee maker thought it was running the pump dry. I switched to tap water, and have only had the problem one time since. Hasn’t even been a month & just started cutting off on its own. I noticed while it heats up the water some of it leaks out probably from the pressure. I think the water is leaking inside of the Keurig & tripping some sensor or something causing it to cut off. I unplugged it took it to the sink & turned upside down & shook out all the water.
It’s important not to wash the machine in the sink, as water can get inside and damage the electronics as well as causing rust. That means if you use your machine often you may need to descale more frequently. Some examples of descaling frequencies are shown in the table below.
