The 40F rating is pretty optimistic, but might be doable with a good pad and pajamas. I would say 50F would be a more realistic rating, especially for cooler sleepers and less insulated sleeping pads. I haven’t been able to try it in the wild, but I have laid in it in a cold garage. It was about 51F in the garage and I had the Nemo Cosmo Insulated 25L pad under it.
