Also, it seems that quality control over at Coleman is a bit off. While I didn’t have any problems, I’ve seen a few reports of incorrect assembly. Unfortunately, many of these reports quite new and apparently haven’t been dealt with by the manufacturer.

This propane grill features up to 20,000 BTUs of grilling power, 2 durable side tables for resting items, and a push-button for matchless lighting. For this metric, we inspected and compared the control knobs, ignitors, and burner configurations of each model. We experimented with cooking at low, medium, and high settings to monitor temperatures and analyze consistency. With the grills on high, we covered the cooking surface with white bread just long enough to lightly toast the slices in order to create a visual heat map and to identify any hot spots.

The combination of the burner configuration and the accurate, easy-to-use dials makes for some truly impressive heat distribution. In our years of testing, we’ve found models that will burn half of your food but leave the other half undercooked. Our white bread test results showed that the Coleman Roadtrip 285 is devoid of hot spots or dead zones. When it comes to propane models, the Coleman Roadtrip 285 is on par with the best of the best.

This grill might not be the smallest, but it’s evident that Coleman took great care in designing the LXE to make sure that is was very easy to set up, tear down and tote around. Of the four areas we considered, the RoadTrip® scored lowest in durability. Right out of the box, within minutes of assembling the grill, I barely bumped the grill on the concrete as I was transitioning it into its collapsed position and broke the handle. While this was admittedly due to user error, it shouldn’t have been that easy to break. Coleman does have replacement parts on their website but we were unable to locate this particular part. A little duct tape fixed the problem and the rest of the grill seems sturdy and well made.

When it might be lighter than the LXE, the Coleman X-Cursive remains among the thicker portable grills round at 43 Pounds. This implies it is not likely to be easily portable as the Weber coleman grill Q1000, for instance. It also has a very generously-sized usable cooking area, making it ideal for grilling for a crowd (we’re thinking it will be popular with tailgators).

Each burner is controlled independently, allowing for different temperatures on each side of the large cooking area. It can easily provide enough heat to sear steaks and chicken perfectly. coleman camping With its collapsible design, rear wheels for easy transportation, 16oz propane fuel compatibility, and insta-start ignition, the grill was built with portability and grilling ease in mind.

As I mentioned previously, it can go from compact to completely set up and ready to light in less than a couple of minutes. It takes less than a minute to erect the stand from a folded unit to its cooking position. It takes one minute more to connect the regulator to the LP bottle and attach it to the back of the grill. I like to call the Coleman RoadTrip LXE the starter version of the RoadTrip line of portable grills. This indicates grill temperature when only one or two of the burners are on, to represent a cooking task where the food is placed between or alongside the direct flame.
