In 1895, with the financial backing of fellow German American Adolph Frederick William Arnold (a meat packer), he founded Arnold, Schwinn & Company. Schwinn’s new company coincided with a sudden bicycle craze in America. Chicago became the center of the American bicycle industry, with thirty factories turning out thousands of bikes every day. Bicycle output in the United States grew to over a million units per year by the turn of the 20th century. Powered by personalized zones, accountability and an instructor who will push riders to be their best, the Z Bike was designed for studios that focus on unifying their members with color.

Whether for recreation or transportation, we’ve designed the right city e-bike for you. We don’t sell snowboards, schwinn dealers we don’t sell kayaks and we don’t sell tents. We only sell bikes – you might even say bikes are our life.

All models of the bike have hydraulic disc brakes for superior stopping power, nice knobby tires, and modern mountain bike geometry. This makes them a good choice for kids who want to spend more time riding off-road than on. There are countless photos of bikes such as the Paramount, Stingray, Twin, Fastback, and many more. Aside from the Schwinn goodies, there is a bunch of period advertisements from bicycle and non-bike material.

A growing number of US teens and young adults were purchasing imported European sport racing or sport touring bicycles, many fitted with multiple derailleur-shifted gears. Schwinn decided to meet the challenge by developing two lines of sport or road ‘racer’ bicycles. One was already in the catalog — the limited production Paramount series. As always, the Paramount spared no expense; the bicycles were given high-quality lightweight lugged steel frames using double-butted tubes of Reynolds 531 and fitted with quality European components including Campagnolo derailleurs, hubs, and gears. The Paramount series had limited production numbers, making vintage examples quite rare today.

Mongoose is known for BMX and dirt bikes, while Cannondale makes schwinn beach cruiser high-end road bikes. “Together we can further cater to the ever growing demand for quality and electric bikes, whether it’s for urban use, leisure or sports,” CEO Janus Smalbraak said in a statement.

We’ve tested and reviewed LOTS of kids bikes over the years on this website (including Specialized bikes), and have helped thousands of parents pick out the best bike for THEIR child. These cruisers keep riders laid back and at ease while cruising to the beach with friends. The Schwinn ALU cruisers take the classic cruiser look to the next level with a modern, lightweight, aluminum frame; fun color options; as well as the premier Schwinn Relaxed Position Geometry. E-bikes now make up 70% of sales at Pon’s bicycle arm. The company has been rolling out new services in Europe, including the popular “Swapfiets” in Amsterdam where users pay a monthly fee and get repairs and replacement bikes for free.

Schwinn was soon sponsoring a bicycle racing team headed by Emil Wastyn, who designed the team bikes, and the company competed in six-day racing across the United States with riders such as Jerry Rodman and Russell Allen. In 1938, Frank W. Schwinn officially introduced the Paramount series. Developed from experiences gained in racing, Schwinn established Paramount as their answer to high-end, professional competition bicycles. The Paramount used high-strength chrome-molybdenum steel alloy tubing and expensive brass lug-brazed construction. During the next twenty years, most of the Paramount bikes would be built in limited numbers at a small frame shop headed by Wastyn, in spite of Schwinn’s continued efforts to bring all frame production into the factory. The new AC Performance Plus bike is in a class by itself.

Pon Holdings, which bid unsuccessfully to buy the Sparta and Batavus brands for $900 million in 2017, said the latest acquisition would give it a strong foothold in U.S. markets where it expects to sell e-bikes, as well as road, city and mountain bikes. In a recent email sent to their dealers, Waterford Precision Cycles and Gunnar Cycles announced that they will be closing up shop at the end of June. With several employees planning their imminent retirements, including owner Richard Schwinn, they made the tough decision to cease production and wind down operations. Waterford and Gunnar are no longer taking orders for new bikes or restorations and are focusing on building the last of their existing orders to the exacting standards that have made them beloved brands ove the years.
