The plastic base is not very durable nor does it stay on when you lift the lantern by its handle. Place your finger over the hole in the air intake tube where the generator just came out of. Use an air compressor to blow-out the burner assembly by holding the air nozzle under the burner cap(s) and blowing air up into the lantern. This will clear dirt and insect nests out of the tubes.

If you want to drop the operating cost, then all you have to do is fill the tank with unleaded gasoline. At an average price of $2.50 a gallon, that will bring the operating cost to $0.07 per hour. The construction of the above 228B built in May 1930 includes a swaged bail that will only fit in the key slot on the frame member when it is under the frame. As a result the bail will not detach from an assembled lantern. This lantern is the largest and the heaviest product we reviewed.
Other than that, I found that the LED lantern puts out enough light to accomplish most tasks. If you want to know more about the refill kit, you can see my demonstration of it here. For this test, I used a Canon D6 DSLR camera mounted on a tripod. I used manual settings to keep the exposure the same for all three lanterns.
This allows you to bring many lanterns on a week long trip and not worry about charging all week. The Coleman will not make it through a week long camping trip unless you use it sparingly. Although you may not be able to buy this exact one these days, they do make a similar one. The other thing to notice is the the color of the light. The gas lantern gives off a very warm yellow light.
Monte Dodge’s 202, running (right), is dated Mar. ’57 and has a metal burner cap. This Model 220D, in Deems Burton’s collection, is almost like new and is dated B ’48, which we think means it was made in July-Dec of that year. The black handled Coleman reflector, 220D790, fits 220C-F models.

The correct, original globes add the special touch to old lanterns, and Wilmot has been known to buy a rummage sale lantern just to source the globe.
