Review: Coleman 5-Person Instant Dome Tent

Each WeatherTec tent is engineered and tested in a specially constructed wind machine and inchraininch room to withstand severe storm conditions. Tent body is made of coated polyester brought together with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers. Zipper cuff adds additional weather protection to your front door. After looking for hours for a good review for this tent with some good photos, I was about to give up until I found yours.

The seam tape wasn’t very well applied around some of the windows, so it kind of blocks the zipper, and makes it less smooth and more snaggy than it would have been. The pole structure is also very simple, and there are coleman cooler only 6 guylines in total for such a large tent. I tried to make sure that the zippers were protected by this yellow rain cover thing on the outside, but it seems to be soaked with water, and made the leaking worse.

And although we did like the two deployable vents on the roof, you’ll want to make sure to keep those closed if the weather is at all questionable since they are liable to let rain into the tent. Near-instant set-up aside, the Coleman 4-Person Instant Cabin Tent is also a fan-favorite choice because of its sturdy design. For extra protection from the elements, you can buy the Instant Cabin Tent with a rainfly; this bundle is also on major markdown for October Prime Day at 41 percent off. Once the tent was fully setup, it stood 76” high in the center of the tent. This 8 person Coleman Instant Tent takes up 14’x8’ of space and I would consider this the Cadillac of instant tents. Because it doesn’t have that dome shape, people can walk around the tent from one end to the other without having to hunch over….very cool!

If I were being nitpicky, I would say that there’s a little bit of light seeping in through the gap between the roof and the rainfly, and also from the bathtub flooring at the bottom of the tent. But we’ve been burned by this “instant setup in about 60 seconds” claim of Coleman’s before. If the tent (or canopy) has been properly folded and zipped up in the bag then, sure, you can put it up pretty quickly.

Otherwise, this tent is fantastic, highly recommended, and I would happily pay the full price for it. Having re-erected the tent once home to dry it out, I have to say, it only coleman camping chair takes around 1-2 minutes to open now. As an instant tent, I guess I should have expected it to be incredibly fast, but I really didn’t think it would honestly be so simple.

While it may take you more than a minute the first time, we found that setup time to be right on target. And, even after it has been put up and down several times, the tent, fly, poles, pegs and guy-ropes all fit into the large bag very easily. Great for anyone who is sick of trying to stuff everything into the same tiny bag it came in.

We just did our best to crumple it up and use the two straps provided to tie everything together and stuff the tent back into the bag. It’s really is easy and quick, even for one person to put it up and pack it down on their own. You may have noticed I tend to camp a lot, typically coleman camping chair 60 nights per year and occasionally we lend our tents out to friends too, so they have seen lots of service. You can also leave the tent easily, and get back into the tent easily, through this super, super user-friendly hinged D-door on the left width of the tent.
