3 Best Ozark Trail Tents of 2022 for Large Families & Queen Mattresses

Take time to inspect your tent when you first get it (damages from shipping are common), and don’t ever “force” anything when setting up or tearing down your shelter. Livability describes the overall day-to-day experience of owning and using a tent, and tents that are more comfortable, convenient, and easy to use score the highest in terms of livability. This shelter may be the least expensive in our roundup, but it still packs some sweet features worth noting. Our favorite is the “storage locker” which gives you a protected place to store items like muddy shoes outside the tent, but can also be accessed from inside using a second zipper.

Cabin-style straight wall tent designs provide more lateral space, sure, but a dome tent is better against the wind. The rounded sides make this tent well suited to withstand strong winds. But at only 17.6 lbs this is one of the lighter tents that can fit an entire family. Setup may take a bit longer, but that’s ok, you’ll benefit from the extra space in your car. Weighing only 16.81 lbs it is one of the lighter tents on this list, but will be one of the easiest to set up in 5-10 minutes. I also like that for a small tent, there’s a ton of storage options.

The freestanding tent option can be used at any time, and if you are the type that enjoys things like backyard campouts, this is the perfect type of tent for it. Disconnecting the sleeve happens just as fast as when you connect it. It can be rolled up and fastened to the tent, with a layer of mesh and a flap covering the opening to keep bugs and water out. SUV’s are the main vehicle this tent is geared toward. A lot of consumers want to know if it will work with alternate large vehicles.

But unfortunately, because I’m not tall (I’m 5’3″), I couldn’t get the rainfly up on my own, and that’s where I got stuck. To set up the Ozark Trail 10-Person Tent, first slide the 3 fiberglass poles through the roof pole sleeves. The poles are not color-coded, but the pole sleeves are. I also noticed that the fabric of most of my Coleman Tents tend to stay dry in light to moderate rain, and would only start getting wet after 45 minutes to 1 hour of super heavy rainfall. As for my Ozark Trail 10-Person Tent, it was able to stay dry only for about 10 minutes of mostly light rain and some moderate rainfall, not even heavy rain.

No Ozark Trail tent is perfect, but as far as full-size family camping tents go, this is the one to beat. Ozark Trail makes an affordable quality family tent, and this 10-person instant cabin tent is no different. The ceiling of the tent is fully mesh, so the rain fly will use its waterproof coating as a barrier to prevent moisture from soaking the interior. The tent is also designed with a bathtub floor to help keep dirt and water from spilling over if there are any ground swells.

I am now going with a four-season tent though as I’ll be traveling the country and who knows what weather I’ll run into. Usually I share a 2- or 3-person tent when backpacking with others to split up the weight, but as mentioned we each needed to be self-contained so I brought my 1-person tent from Ozark Trail. Rating and Summary The Core Straight Wall ozark tent Cabin Tent is an incredibly spacious tent. Its 10-person version has an impressive peak height of 90 inches, and I couldn’t even reach the top of the tent! (I’m 5’3″, ,by the way.) Another great thing about the Core Cabin Tent is that there are no obvious flaws…. I don’t think this Ozark Trail 10-Person Tent will do very well against strong winds.

I am preparing for a camping trip of 10 days and nights down in Florida where it rains a lot and the wind sometimes is pretty strong so I am wondering if the fly will stay put. There is a large space between it and the top of the tent that might be a trap for strong wind so the fly gets ripped off. I think I will go shopping this week for another tent that I feel better about. Otherwise I like the tent but do not trust it to hold up in severe conditions. I have the JW-7607 which is a 2-3 (read that as two) person tent. It has held up to kids camping in the living room and back yard, many camping trips to desert / forest / lake environments and even survived a bear “attack” with only a small tear.

Its combination of a spacious floor plan, smart layout, and added livability ozark trail canopy all work together to make it the stand-out model in the Ozark Trail lineup.

I will write down my personal experiences with their tents and everybody else’s I find on the internet as well. On top of that, all of their tents are affordable, come with an electrical cord port, and set up in minutes. Ozark Trail tents are competitive with CORE and Coleman Tents, but in our opinion ultimately fall a little short of both brands in quality and consistency. It has a tremendous amount of features and can easily be set up by one person in just a few minutes.
